The Rowdy Coyote Rumble

The Rowdy Coyote Rumble by Ann Charles
Series: Jackrabbit Junction Humorous Mystery #4
Kindle Edition, 404 pages
Published January 31st 2016 by Ann Charles

A dust devil of mystery and mayhem pulls Claire into a storm full of rowdy sisters, ominous threats, relationship snafus, and a dangerous mine that could be a treasure trove of trouble. It’s only a matter of time before this rumble turns into an all-out calamity!

I LOVE Ann Charles' Deadwood series. This is book #4 from another one of her series which I hate to admit I have not read yet. They are definitely on my TBR list. I love her sense of humor and her hilarious spin on mysteries. I know I will love these. You should give her a try.

***********

A hot blast of frustration made her start to sweat. She snorted, her hackles getting up in arms with flaming torches. “Oh, yeah? You mean while you were traveling in luxury all over the God’s green earth buying expensive old cars, and I was here in your hot stinky bar sweating and puking in between serving drinks to lonely cowboys and weary miners?”

His lips twitched. “Yes, Kate, while I was traveling.”

Oh, she double-dog dared him to laugh at her. “Please, do share these grand thoughts that are so important you had to burst into the Ladies Room to tell me.”

“I’ve changed my mind.”

“About what?” Her temper was racing out of control yet again, the reigns ripped clear out of her hands. “Whether Pluto should be classified as a planet or what beers we’re keeping on tap this holiday season?”

Dear Lord of the Rings, what was wrong with her? Who was this mad woman in her head running around screaming obscenities? Was this what stumbling down the rabbit hole into insanity felt like?

Butch’s hands snaked out, catching her off guard. He hauled her against him, his mouth coming down fast before she could even think about pulling away. By the time her brain caught up with her present situation, she was kissing him back, damn it.

As she melted against him, his touch softened. His lips became gentle and coaxing, his hands caressing a moan out of her. Hells bells, she’d missed him. She lifted her arms and draped them around his neck.

She turned back to her sister. “Call me paranoid again and I’m going to have Henry lick your face while you’re sleeping.”

Claire shuddered. “Don’t you dare! That dog licks his balls on a daily basis.”

Book Spotlight Giveaway! Mind Games by T.J. Moore

The book that I am featuring this week is one that I have a bit of a personal connection to. The author's sister used to work with me here at the library when she was an undergraduate student. She is now in graduate school so I still see her once in awhile. She is an avid reader, just like me and we have had numerous conversations about books.

I am so excited to be able to help her brother publicize his debut novel and I have a Kindle copy for one of you to win. I have not read Mind Games yet but it is high on my TBR pile. It looks intriguing!

Good luck and be sure to stop back next week!

Rachael Anderson

The Fall of Lord Drayson

The Fall of Lord Drayson

Who is he really? A high and mighty Lord, or a lowly servant?

When Colin Cavendish, the new earl of Drayson, informs Lucy Beresford that she and her mother have two months to vacate the house they've called home for the past two years, Lucy is fit to be tied. They have no money, no relations they can turn to for help, and nowhere to go. How dare the earl break the promise his father had made to the Beresfords without so much as a twinge of conscience?

Mere hours later, Lucy discovers the earl unconscious and injured in the middle of the road. Grudgingly, she takes him into her home to tend to his wounds, but when he awakens with no recollection of who he is, Lucy seizes the opportunity to teach a much-needed lesson in humility. Pushing her own twinge of conscience aside, she informs the earl of Drayson that he is nothing more than a mere servant. Her servant, in fact.

And thus begins the charming tale of a pompous lord and an impetuous young woman, caught together in a web so tangled that it begs the question: Will they ever get out?

Going for Two

Going for Two by Laura Chapman
Series: Queen of the League, #2
Print and ebook
Published: January 27th 2016 by Marching Ink

Harper Duquaine is back for another season of fantasy football! This time she’s a year wiser and prepared to dominate the league. But while she finally seems to have her fantasy life in order, reality proves more challenging.

Her plans to peacefully play house with her boyfriend come to a halt when the high school suddenly names Brook its head football coach. The promotion comes with more responsibility on the field and less time at home. It also unexpectedly means more work for Harper, who already has her hands full helping a friend pull off the perfect proposal (while dodging questions about when she and Brook are going to get hitched already). Plus, a new development at work could leave her—and half of the fantasy league—jobless.

With the complications of her career and being “Mrs. Coach” adding up, Harper wonders if she’s committed to the life she’s already building or if there is something else out there.

My thoughts about Going for Two ~~

I love football, especially Nebraska football. I love reading chick-lit. And I love Laura’s Queen of the League series which combines both of these things! And I am learning more about fantasy football with every book she writes.

There is enough football woven into this story to keep me pumped for football, even though the season is over for us. There is high school, college, and pro ball all rolled up together in this grand adventure. And there is plenty of relationship ups and downs to keep me interested as well. There is a very nice balance of the two. This is a perfectly wonderful chick lit/sports story.

Harper and Brook become a loving couple, settling into a comfortable life. That is until Brook is offered the temporary head coach position. He has taken on so much and wants the team to succeed so badly that their relationship starts taking a back seat to football. Harper is not happy about that and starts to question if this was the right road for her to take. Those are the ups and downs I mentioned earlier.

‘I was raised on football, but the game looks completely different when it’s about more than winning or losing. It’s about playing with heart, which matters more.

The two of them will have to work together if they want to get through the season with any hope of their relationship surviving. I really do love these characters and the friends they surround themselves with. Reading Going for Two was like visiting all of them again, catching up where we left off just like old friends.

I thoroughly enjoyed book #1 in this series, First & Goal. I loved that the story continues in Going for Two. And I am super excited for the next in the series, Three & Out. I can’t wait to see where Laura takes these characters next.

And Laura – Go Big Red!! How ‘bout them Huskers?

Release Day! Going for Two by Laura Chapman

Happy Release Day!!

28174616

Going for Two

Thank you, Laura, for stopping by The Book Bag today. I am so excited for this series and I wish you all the best.

Happy release day to you and Going for Two!

Thank you, Susan, for featuring Going for Two—and me—today. Enjoy!

In honor of Going for Two’s release, I’m sharing some fun facts about the book and Queen of the League series.

I was still writing the first draft of First & Goal on my 28th birthday when my sister and some friends took me out to see an ‘80s cover band that night. They were a riot. All of the members had big hair—I’m not sure whose was real or wigs—and the lead singer wore hot pink leather pants. And thanks to a special request from my sister, the band wished me a happy birthday from the stage and sang to me. While I already had First & Goal pretty well figured out, I knew I had to feature a cover band eventually, which is how it wound up in Going for Two. While none of the details from that night specifically make it into the book, it was the inspiration.

I hope you will check out the other facts—view a complete listing of locations and dates on my website—and the series.

Be sure and stop back here tomorrow
to read my thoughts about Going for Two.

Body of Lies

Body of Lies by Iris Johansen
Series: Eve Duncan #4
Hardcover, 340 pages

Published March 26th 2002 by Bantam

From Iris Johansen, the New York Times bestselling author of The Search and Final Target, comes a taut, fast-paced, and terrifying psychological thriller that pushes the level of suspense to the absolute limit- and beyond. This time forensic sculptor Eve Duncan finds herself matched against a killer who will challenge her skill, test her courage, and threaten her family.

As a forensic sculptor, Eve Duncan deals in death every day of her life. It' s her job. And while it might seem macabre to some, Eve knows from personal experience that her work, giving a face and a name to the victims of violent death, helps bring closure to their families. Now that job is about to put not only her own life on the line...but the lives of everyone close to her.

It begins with a call from a high-ranking government official. He wants Eve to drop everything and come to Baton Rouge to identify the remains of an unknown murder victim. At first, Eve wants nothing to do with the project. She has finally found peace from her own tragic past, living a quiet life in a small lakeside cottage with Atlanta detective Joe Quinn and her adopted daughter, Jane. But a stunning series of seemingly unrelated events is about to upset all that.

Suddenly, Eve' s hard-won new world is turned upside down, and she flees to Baton Rouge to take on the project of identifying the skeleton. Forced to work in secrecy, given only the sketchiest of information, Eve can' t help but wonder if the high-level security that surrounds her is meant to protect her- or imprison her.

She hasn't even begun work on the reconstruction when the first death occurs. Someone totally ruthless, someone who can strike anywhere at any time, and with seeming immunity, is determined to put a halt to her work. Soon the questions- and the threats to her own life- begin to mount as Eve realizes she has stumbled into the heart of a chilling conspiracy.

There is only one person who can give her the answers she needs. And that is the dead man himself.

To survive, Eve must put her life on the line to uncover the deadly secret of his identity and learn the devastating truth buried beneath a body of lies.
